Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the American major.
His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.
Currently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from March of that year.
The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on court had led observers to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.
However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an improved serve.
He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to take the lead.
The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.
He saved four initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
